Mud House

John Joslin was a farmer in Essex and also had a business in Belgium. Together with his wife Jennifer they decided to sell up and cruise the world in their custom built yacht 'Dancing Wave'. They did this for six years before dropping anchor in New Zealand. After one visit to Marlborough the yacht was sold and 20 acres in the heart of the wine growing region was bought. Marlborough was chosen for its international reputation as a premium wine growing region with one of the longest ripening periods in the world.

The vineyard was named 'Le Grys' which was Jennifer's maiden name. Planted varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. A unique Mud block house was built in the vineyard. The company produced the first wines in 1996 and the Mud House Wine Company brand was thus formed to market the wines.

The company has grown from 300 cases to above 50,000 since 1996. Sold both nationally and internationally the demand for the wines has meant that Mud House has twelve dedicated long term growers. The success of the wines in international competitions and accolades earned can be attributed to the combined efforts of the growers, our viticulturist, winemaker and the whole team. The wines continue to be made from boutique vineyards and privately controlled by owners John and Jennifer.
