Schild Estate Wins Best Grenache at The Drinks Business Master Winemaker Top 100

Schild Estate’s Chief Winemaker, Scott Hazeldine, has been awarded top prize with the 2020 Edgar Schild Old
Bush Vine Grenache being named ‘Best Grenache’ at The Drinks Business Master Winemaker Awards held in
Paris on Monday.

Hazeldine was also named in the Master Winemaker Top 100 list compiled by The Drinks Business which
recognises the years’ highest achieving winemakers in the Global Wine Masters series.

The 2020 Edgar Schild Old Bush Vine Grenache, which received the ‘Master’ title in the Global Grenache
Masters, is a particularly special wine to the team at Schild Estate. Made from Grenache vines planted in 1916
and 1926 these precious vines are considered ‘Survivor Vines’ and ‘Centenarian Vines’ respectively under the
Barossa Old Vine Charter.

“We are extremely grateful to get such recognition” said Hazeldine

“The award is particularly exciting being for Grenache, a variety we love, but a variety that challenges us in both the vineyard and winery so it’s even more rewarding when it all falls into place”

Scott said the real credit for such recognition lies firstly with the unique old vine sites and secondly with the
dedicated and hardworking team at Schild Estate.

“It’s lovely affirmation for all the team that the work we are undertaking both in the vineyard
and the winery has us on the right path and is yielding wines of the quality we aspire to and spurs
us on for future”
